Les cerf volants de Maastricht, Flimsy!

It is now quite some time I want to tell you about the quilt I am working on.
I already alluded to it as "The university quilt" for my daughter.

I have now renamed it and I am calling it "les cerf-volants de Maastchricht" or "Maastricht's flying kites".

I planned this quilt for my daugter's university room. After discussing with her about the importance of colours (more on the planning here), she choose orange as the main colour and blue for the background.

Then I showed her several patterns and ideas I had found on the internet. She selected "Halphazard" by Liz from Savor Every Stitch. It is all HST's so I felt confident. The pattern is really great : you can select your main colour(s) and background colour(s), the size and number of the blocks and the percentage of small vs large blocks. And the, magically, the computer generates your unique pattern. and you can continue until you are satisfied with the results.

The system only proposes quare quilts. My daugter did not want a square. So we selected two runs of the pattern and added 4 lines from the second to the first. It made all calculations a bit more complex, because you cannot rely on the number of HST of each kind calculated by the computer.
In the end, she choose 3 orange colours (one being really yellow) and two blue backgrounds.
Oh and she wanted solids, which I had not imagined. I ordered the bella solids from an online shop boasting 140 different colours.

I don't have any good picture (seems to be a habit!) but I have a funny one. Where can be the missing sock?!?

Where does the name come from? When my father first saw it, he said it looked like a sky full of flying kites. My daugther studies at Maastricht University...

Cela fait maintenant pas mal de temps que je veux écrire à propos du patchwok sur lequel je travaille en ce moment. J'en avais déjà parlé en l'appelant"le patchwork que ma fille va emmener à l'université".

Je l'appelle maintenant "les cerf-volants de Maastricht".

Ce Patchwork est destiné à la chambre de ma fille à l'université. Après avoir discuté avec elle de l'importance des couleurs (j'en ai raconté plus ici), elle a choisi orange comme couleur principale et bleu pour le fond.


Ensuite, je lui ai montré plusieurs modèles et idées glanées sur internet. Elle a élu "Halphazard"de  Liz from Savor Every Stitch. Ce ne sont que des HST, donc je me sentais en confiance. Le patron est vraiment bien : on élection sa ou ses couleur(s) principale(s) et saou ses couleurs pour le fond, la taille et le nombre de blocs ainsi que la proportion des grands et petit blocs.
Et magiquement, l'ordinateur crée votre patron unique. Et on peut continuer jusqu'à ce qu'on soit satisfait du résultat!

Le système ne propose que des patchworks carrés. Ma fille voulait un rectangle. Donc on a sélectionné deux patrons et ajouté 4 lignes en provenance du second au premier. Cela rend les calculs un peut plus compliqués parce qu'on ne peut plus se fier au nombre de HST de chaque sorte indiqués par le programme.

Finalement, elle a choisi 3 oranges (dont l'un est en fait jaune) et deux bleus.
Ah et elle ne voulait que des tissus unis! Autre chose que je n'avais pas envisagé. J'ai commandé les tissus en "bella solid" sur une boutique on-line qui se vente d'en proposer 140 couleurs.


Je n'ai pas de bonne photo du top (cela semble être une habitude), mais j'ai celle-ci qui me fait sourire.
Mais où peut être cette chaussette?

 Et d'où vient le nom? Quand mon père a vu la première photo, il a dit "oh, on dirait un ciel plein de cerfs-volants!" Et ma fille étudie à l'université de Maastricht.
