Finally finished!

Image
texte en français en bas de la page I finished the quilting of "Bleu de toi".  More information and the inspiration was shown in my post here .  what I liked the most in the design was the fact the heart was not centered. I decided to keep the focus of the quilting on the heart, by making it the center of a spiral. I quilted the spiral with my walking foot. It was more difficult than I expected, and the quilt is really full of errors. Still, I am proud of my finish and hope the parents will forgive my beginner errors. The thread is a light blue. The binding in dark blue might be a bit too hard. For the back, I choose a light blue with red dot. Not sure why I did not take a picture of the quilted back after binding I attached the label before quilting. Probably not the "normal" way to do it. I like it better after washing - I am not sure why. Maybe it is a bit flatter? One last picture Marie PS link to  Needle and Thread

A quilt for a 5 years old boy

Texte en français en bas de la page   When my sister announced she was expecting a second child, I decided it was time for me to start quilting. I had wanted to try since some time, but I really needed to start for this baby. So I made a few small projects (pillows) and then a baby blanket. Then I remembered how my kids felt when a new baby arrived in the family. All that attention and all the gifts were directed to the new baby. It was a difficult time for the older siblings. My nephew is 5 years old. He is home schooled and has the full attention of his parents and great parents most of the time... What a shock for him! So I decided I would make a quilt for him too. But then came the difficult decision time. To make a baby quilt is easy; you just have to please the parents. But how to please a 5 years old with a quilt? I live far away from my family and don't see them very often. My sister told me that he is an NBA fan and he likes dragon. His favourite Lakers player...

Am I stalling?

Texte en Français en bas de la page Am I scared to finish a project? My last 3 projects are closed to finish, but it seems that the closer I get, the slower I go. Maybe it is time for me to add myself in to do lists, monthly goals or UFO busting links? What do I have pending so far? : Sucre d'orge : a flimsy I have done based on a tutorial from http://www.atelierdemma.com/ (In French) I need to quilt it, but I did not start due to the lack of an appropriated backing fabric. The quality of the picture is very bad. The Octopus : This is a very special quilt for a very special little boy (my nephew, Noé). I pieced it and quilted it for the most part, but stopped short of quilting the borders and binding. I was so happy with my results so far that was scared I would ruin it with the border quilting... Bleu de toi, which I discussed in my last post. It is now fully quilted (with severe flaws I have to say) but I did not bind it yet. I had some time today, but de

Texte en Français en bas de la page The first project I can share with you! It is a baby quilt for my cousin's son, born last month. The inspiration comes from this post from studio Dragonfly . I sewed mainly HST until now so it seemed an achievable goal. I choose  a selection of blue fabrics as the main colour because one of my friends told me I always choose pink or girly fabrics. I needed something that would state "boy" immediately. Then I selected the background fabric. I wanted a basis of white, but I was afraid the contrast would be too much. I found that small butterfly fabric and hoped it would not be too girly... The name "bleu de toi" is a french expression playing on the colour blue. It means crazily in love for you, which reflects the feeling of a mum for her baby boy. Here is the flimsy - not a very good picture I am afraid.  And it is only now when I write this post and the quilting has started that I realise I made a m

Welcome!

Hi! Thank you for visiting. I am Marie, mother to 3 teenagers and new to blogging and quilting. I have started to quilt a few months ago. I have quickly been amazed by the blogger community. I don't have anybody who quilt around me. But I found out that the internet is full of friendly quiters who share their passions, their tips and inspiration. And I wanted to participate and show my work. Hope we get to know each other! Marie PS why Octopus Patchwork, you may ask? Well this is the name of the quilt I am working on currently - my most ambitious project so far, designed by myself. More to come about it!
